Udupi: “Under various schemes, 21,000 beneficiaries have been given monthly allowance of 1.50 crores in Udupi district,” said MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.
He was addressing the gathering after distributing various monthly allowance certificates to 109 beneficiaries at Taluk Panchayath auditorium on Wednesday.

“Before Vidhana Sabha elections I had promised to provide all government facilities to the needy. Already 10,000 beneficiaries have been provided with BPL cards.”

“When BJP was in power, the government treasure was empty and for one year monthly allowance was stopped. Now after Congress came to power, giving all the monthly allowances has been restarted. Rs 1.20 lakhs is given to the poor in rural areas to build houses. In Udupi district there are no applications pending in this scheme, he said.

He distributed BPL cards to 6 beneficiaries, widow allowance to 23 persons, allowance to handicapped to 4 persons, Manswini allowance to 4 persons, Sandhya Suraksha allowance to 63 persons and allowance for 6 senior citizens below poverty line. Udupi Tahshildar welcomed the move and said that in Udupi and Brahmavara hobli every month government facilities will be provided.

Need not bribe officers to get work done:

The MLA questioned the beneficiaries as to whether they have given bribe to avail government facilities? When they denied, he appreciated officers for their service to the public.

“In my constituency to avail government facilities, you need not bribe officers because I personally take responsibility to provide them. So that I can listen to people’s problems when they come to me asking for help because officers never understand problems of the needy,” he said.

“Whenever people come asking for help, whichever may be the application, within a month it should be approved and should not make them run behind it”, MLA warned officers.
