Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha has stated that the narrow Agumbe Ghat Road NH 169A that links Malnad region and Coastal Karnataka, will remain closed for heavy vehicles weighing over 12 tonnes up to October 15, for plying of such vehicles might lead to landslips on the road as it is rainy season.
In this background, the plying of heavy vehicles might block traffic, stated the release. The alternate route the vehicles that move towards Shivamogga from Udupi can take is Udupi-Siddapura-Hosangady-Baalebare Ghat-Hulikal-Mastikatte-Theerthahalli, while heavy vehicles moving towards Shivamogga from Mangaluru can take Mangaluru-Karkala-Hebri-Siddapura-Hosangady-Baalebare Ghat-Hulikal-Mastikatte-Theerthahalli.
It can be recalled here that the plying of heavy vehicles have damaged the roads and put lives in danger in earlier rainy seasons due to which such precautionary measures are taken.
