Manipal: Niranjan Bhat, the accused in the murder of businessman Bhaskar Shetty launched a failed suicide bid in Manipal jail on Monday night.
It is said that Bhat attempted suicide by swallowing his diamond ring in the jail, but in vain as Bhat was probably not aware that only open or crushed diamond could kill him and not the entire ring!
He was rushed to a hospital in Ajjarkad and his condition is said to be stable.
Bhat, a 26-year-old astrologer was absconding soon after the sensational Bhasker Shetty murder case was out. As per sources, after Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth killed him, they took the dead body to residence of Bhat, where the astrologer burnt the dead body and later disposed the ashes.
After going on run for a few days, Bhat was nabbed by the police on August 8 and was brought to Nandalike.
It is said that closeness between Rajeshwari and this young astrologer led to the cold-blooded murder.
