Udupi: News is that BJP state Chief and Lingayat strongman B S Yeddyurappa has been asked by the party National President Amit Shah to contest upcoming polls from any constituency from North Karnataka, strategically to woo the Lingayat voters.
However, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP and close associate of BSY, Shobha Karandalaje has clarified that no decision has yet been taken in this regard.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, September18, she said though people from various Assembly segments have been urging BSY to contest from their areas, the former CM has not been able to convince himself to leave his constituency Shikaripura and his home district Shivamogga.
“The party leadership has suggested him to contest from constituency in North Karnataka in the Assembly elections due early next year. BJP seems to have stronghold in North Karnataka. The party wants to win a maximum number of seats from this part of the state to return to power. That might be the reason why the party leadership is planning to field Yeddyurappa from North Karnataka,” she said adding that it simply wouldn’t matter as to where BSY is contesting from because he would win from any constituency with huge margin.
