Udupi: As first reported by NewsKarnataka, Former Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, a Congress strongman from Udupi District has tendered his resignation to Congress State Chief D. K. Shivakumar on Saturday May 7.

In his resignation letter, he has stated that at the outset I take this opportunity to thank you and the Congress party for appointing me as one of the Vice Presidents of KPCC, recently. You and the party are aware of my humble contribution in building up the Congress party in the past by spending my time and hard earned money for the party and similarly the Congress party has reciprocated by offering various posts in the government during my tenure for my constituency, district and the state. In the year 2018 a survey was conducted by Dhaksh on behalf of Times of India, Deccan Herald and Prajavani and I was ranked as the best and Number 1 performing MLA in the state of Karnataka. However, I regret to inform you that since the last three years the situation in the Udupi district Congress Party has been a bad experience for me thus leading to political suffocation and the facts of which I have been brought to your kind notice and informed to other party leaders by me. I have observed that no worthwhile steps have been taken by the party to redress my grievances regarding the prevailing situation in the Udupi District Congress party. Due to the circumstances explained above I have reached a point wherein its becoming impossible for me to continue in the Congress party and to do justice to the new post that has been assigned to me recently. Hence, I have decided not to accept the post of the vice-presidentship of KPCC and also to tender my resignation to the primary membership of the Congress Party. I hasten to express my gratitude to all our party leaders and party workers through this letter of resignation.

Now, it is almost confirmed that Pramod Madhwaraj is all set to join BJP with District President Kuilady Suresh Nayak confirming that District has given a nod to him joining the BJP, however State BJP’s approval is awaited. Hence it is speculated that he will join BJP in next couple of days.

It is also said that he has resigned from Congress after an assurance from BJP top leadership that he will be given Udupi ticket in 2023 Assembly election. This also means incumbent MLA Raghupati Bhat will miss the ticket.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka Pramod Madhwaraj said that I have not made any demand to the BJP. I am happy to serve as party worker. As far as the reason for my resignation is concerned, I have already mentioned it in my resignation to the Congress Party, he added.

It can be recalled here that Pramod Madhwaraj was a Minister in Siddaramaiah-led Congress Government.
