Udupi: Eyeing the upcoming assembly elections in Karanataka, political leaders have started to switch sides.

Among all the chatter in rumorsville, there is news that State minister for Sports, Fisheries and Udupi district in-charge Pramodh Madwaraj is likely to leave the Congress party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Udupi assembly constituency was once the stronghold of BJP, but this was lost to the Congress in the previous assembly elections. The tumultuous personal life and controversial sex CD scandal of the then MLA Raghupathi Bhat cost the BJP dear in Udupi and the constituency fell into Congress hands.

The rumours of Pramodh Madhwaraj joining the Congress started after he met BJP leaders in IB, who had come to the city to take part in the Parivarthana Rally.

The State minister Pramodh Madwaraj however, has denied the rumors surrounding his switch over to the BJP. But statements of the Union minister DV Sadhanandha Gowda suggest that the rumors might be true.

The Madhwarajs have a history of changing sides. Pramodh’s mother, Manorama Madhwaraj became MP after she quit the Congress and joined BJP. She later returned to Congress.
