Udupi: Public Relations Council of India, Udupi, Manipal unit in assosiation with Rotary Club Manipal organized ‘Daughter’s Day Celebration’, on Monday, July 1, at the Vaikunta Baliga College commemorating Astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
Dr. Malini Hebbar, Associate Professor, St. Agnes College inaugurated the programme. “A woman is not helpless, she is a part of all the achievments in the world. Daughter’s Day celebration is not just a celebration, it is our pride,” said Dr. Malini Hebbar in her inaugural speech. She said that Kalpana Chawla’s achievements as an astronaut is an inspiration to all and an event in her memory too is inpiring.
Chief Guest of the event Dr. Virupaksha Devaramane, Psychiatrist, Dr. A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, said “Being born as a girl is not a curse, it is an opportunity to express humanity. Children tend to grow as we raise them. All those who have achieved something great in life have been influenced by their parents”.
Dr. Prakash Kanive, Principal, Vaikunta Baliga College of Law greeted the gathering and conveyed his good wishes. The event was presided over by PRCI President Tanuja Maben.
Tanushree Pithrody, Guinness World Record holder for her feat in yogasanas, and popular classical dancer Manasi Sudhir were honoured during the event. Doctors and accountants were also honoured to mark the Doctors’ Day and Chartered Accountants’ Day.
Mother-daughter selfie competition and painting competition were held during the event, and prizes were distributed to the winners. Various entertainment programmes were also organized.
Rotary Club President Dr. D Shridhar was present. Nagraj Hebbar, Raviraj H P, Shrinath Acharya, Rahiman, Suresh Beedu, Geetham Girish, Jayashree Bhandary, Shami Saligrama, Nithin Kumar, Manoj Kadaba among many others cooperatd in organizing the event.
