Udupi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Divisional Secretary Sharan Pumpwell has urged the Kollur Mookambika Temple Administration to stop the ‘pradosha pooje’ or ‘salam mangalarati’ performed in the name of Tipu Sultan.
Pumpwell termed Tipu Sultan a tyrant of a leader, who has massacred thousands of Hindus, and thus felt it is a shame to practice ‘mangalarati’ ritual in his name. He also urged the Endowment Department to replace the word salam which projects a feeling of slavery.
The ritual has been performed at the temple at 8.00pm everyday to mark Tipu Sultan’s visit to the temple.
