Udupi: The state is facing severe drought situation which is affecting human beings as well as animals. The state government has completely failed to take steps to tackle the severe drought conditions, alleged Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and leader of the opposition in the state Legislative Council.

Addressing a press meet at the Udupi Press Club here on Thursday, May 9, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the High Court had ordered the state government to take immediate action on the drought situation in the state and make maximum efforts to prepare for the drought situation. He alleged that the state government ignored the order. “We have never before seen such a government who will ignore the severe drought situation in the state,” he stated.

District administrations across the state have come to a complete standstill and the officers are not involved in development work, including in Udupi City. There are no restrictions from the election commission to distribute drinking water via tankers, cleaning of drains or other fundamental needs of the people. The Udupi district administration has also failed to solve the drinking water problem and are not able to distribute drinking water by tankers as well as the sand extraction problem, he said.

We solved the problem of extraction of sand from CRZ areas with the help of the Union Government. Even the Mines and Geology minister spoke to the Udupi Deputy Commissioner with regard to their opinions, but the DC has not given permission to extract sand in the district. The BJP will fight against the bad administration of the district, he said.
