State level workshop on training differently-abled children held in Udupi

Udupi: “Christian institutions have always strived to uplift the downtrodden and neglected members of the society and aim to create a healthy society”, said Mangaluru Bishop Dr. Aloysius P D’Souza.
 
The bishop was speaking after inaugurating a state-level workshop on training differently-abled children, organised by the Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre, Pambool, near here, on the morning of November 10. It was held as a part of their second-decennial celebrations.
 
“Twenty-years ago, I had the honour of inaugurating Manasa which is known across the nation and overseas, for its major achievements. Every child is born to win and special children need a conducive environment to win. The Catholic Sabha serves mankind as per Jesus’ teaching-love one another just like you love yourself,” said the bishop.
 
Udupi District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, the chief guest of the occasion said, “Everyone prefers healthy babies to be born in their families but if in case differently-abled babies are born, one has to accept that it is divine will. Society has the responsibility to help such children to excel in society within their capabilities. Such children will emerge as a hope for their parents,” said Minister Madhwaraj.
 
Udupi Bishop Dr. Gerald I Lobo, Shirva deanery Vicar Fr. Stany Tauro, Secunderabad-based Special School Chief Dr. Nibedita Patnayak, renowned psychiatrist Dr. P V Bhandary, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh(R) Spiritual Director Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh (R) Director Fr. Mathew Vas, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh President Valerian Fernandes, Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre Chairman Henry Menezes, Administrator Elroy Kiran Crasta, Joseph Noronha, Tushar Sujit and SWAK President Alban D’Souza were present.
 
Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh (R) President Anil Lobo welcomed the gathering. Manasa Rehabilitation and Training Centre Principal Sr. Ancilla Fernandes proposed a vote of thanks. Steven Prakash Lewis and Mara Jacinta Mathias compered the programme.   
 
Dr. Thomas J Quadros, Dr. Nibedita Nayak, Dr. P V Bhandary and Tushar Sujit presented their papers on different aspects of development of special children after the stage programme.
 
Grace Gonsalves, Sr. Sujit, Vasant Kumar Shetty, Dr. Muzafar Assadi, Wilson Rodrigues, K S Jai Vitta presented talks on caring for special children with empathy and love. Milagres College Principal Dr. Vincent Alva moderated the event.
