Statue of St. Anthony at Shirva church desecrated

Shirva: The statue of St. Anthony was desecrated by unknown miscreants at Our Lady of Good Health Church, Shirva on Sunday, 11 December.

A few parishioners noticed the broken statue of St. Anthony which was kept in portico of the church and informed the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro about the incident. Police arrived at the spot with a sniffer dog after the incident was reported to Shirva Police Station.

Wilson D’souza Council Vice President of Shirva Parish and Assistant parish priest Rev. Fr. Canute Noronha rushed to the spot immediately along with a large number of parishioners. Later in the evening, Kaup MLA and former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the church to show his support.

Another statue of St. Lawrence kept down on the floor of the portico was unharmed. Halamurty Rao Circle Inspector and Shirva Sub-inspector are conducting further investigation on the incident.
