Udupi : Malavika Avinash, BJP State Media Spokesperson has condemned the decision of the state government to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanthi slated to be held on November 10 and said that the move will hurt the sentiments of several communities.

Addressing mediapersons at the Udupi district BJP office at Kadiyali on Thursday, she said that there has been strong opposition from all communities of the society all over the state.

“The Kodavas, the Christians especially from the coastal belt of Karnataka have raised their voice against the celebration citing that the ruler had been a communal, cruel and intolerant person who unleashed havoc on the religious minorities. The places of worship of the Christians and the Hindus were plundered by him,” she said adding that now the celebration of such a ruler’s birth anniversary is hurting the feelings and sentiments of large number of people in the state.

Raking up the issue of denial of permission to BJP’s Parivarthana Yathra, she said that the government has acted in an anti-democratic manner. “It was neither a protest nor an agitation. It was an awareness rally, focusing mainly on speaking about the success of the BJP government. We have completed the Yathra in Bengaluru, Tumakuru and Hassan so far. The Parivarthana Yathra will reach all the 224 legislative constituencies of the state in 79 days and the valedictory event will be address by Prime Minster Modi himself,” she said.

District BJP President Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, State BJP leader Sulochana Bhat, ZP vice president Sheela K Shetty, Nayana Ganesh, Yashpal Suvarna, Suresh Nayak Kulaidy, Katpady Shanker Poojary and other among were present during the press meet.
