Tourism Department to introduce floating restaurant at Malpe

Udupi: If all goes as per plans, Udupi’s Malpe will soon have a floating restaurant.

Anitha B. R, Assistant Director of the District Tourism Department told media persons that Malpe Beach will soon be transformed into a lucrative tourism destination with a host of programmes designed to enhance the beauty of the region.

“Major focus of the efforts would be on the adventure sports which would be started shortly. The tourism department is taking up several measures to amp up the influx of tourists, the most ambitious being the floating restaurant at Malpe Beach,” she said adding that the floating restaurant would be the icing on the cake for the visitors, who would not only be able to relish great food, but also be able to take in the beauty of the beach and enjoy the adventure sports.

The tourism department has submitted a design plan worth of Rs. 70 lakh to the state government. Their plan is to utilize the available tourism potential which will effectively boost the tourism business.

The floating restaurant, which is estimated to cost Rs. 4 crore, will be a mesmerising venture. The hotel will be able to accomodate 100 people at any given time. Tenders are yet to be called for the construction of the floating hotel.
