Udupi : Halady Srinivas Shetty has betrayed the voters of Kundapur Constituency by resigning as an MLA to join the BJP party, alleged Rakesh Malli, State Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) President, who is also one of the ticket aspirants for Kundapur legislative assembly election.

Addressing a press meet at Press Club on February 3, Rakesh Malli said that during the 2013 elections Halady had accused the BJP of betraying him and had claimed that he would never join the party. However, he has now done so only for his own political gains, thus betraying the trust of the people.

“Halady is free to join any party he wishes and we have no objections. However, Halady during last elections had promised the people that he would not join the BJP at any cost. Hence, he won the election with huge margin,” Malli said.

The BJP has questioned the contribution of state government and district in-charge minister to the Kundapur constituency but they should also reflect on the nil contribution of four-time MLA Halady for the people of Kundapur constituency. Comparatively there has been a greater development in the other constituencies of Udupi district, he said adding that Halady should give statistical figures in regard to various developmental works done like roads, bridges, hospital and so on.

Rakesh Malli said that he is one of the aspirants of candidate of Kundapur constituency in coming election. “If Congress High Command gives me chance to serve in Kundapur legislative constituency, I will contest.Presently, I am working hard to make Congress stronger.”

Further, he mentioned that he had already shifted to a residence in Kundapur along with his family. As per the instructions of senior party leaders, he is building the party in Kundapur assembly area. INTUC has kept forward a demand of 5 seats for its workers across the state, and we hope to get tickets in the assembly elections.

Malli also said that Halady Srinivas Shetty never attends the government meetings in the constituency and has insulted protocol by not attending the state programmes. He isn’t interested in developmental works in his constituency.

Kota Block Congress President Shankar A Kunder, former taluk panchayat member Roshni Olivera, former ZP member Mallika B Poojary, Congress Minority wing Vice President Derrick D’Souza, Dinesh Kotian, Raghavendra and others were present during the press meet.
