Karkala: Nearly 65 students of a school from Tumkur were lucky enough to escape unhurt after their bus met with an accident at Kukkundoor here on late December 22 evening. The bus driver and two of the six teachers, accompanying the children on an educational tour however sustained serious injuries in the accident.
The injured bus driver Mohsin (27) is undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital, Manipal while the teachers Shivagangaiah (40) and R C Ramesh (54) have been admitted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.
As per reports, the accident took place at a curve on the road at Nelligudde between Kukkundoor and Jarkala when the driver in an attempt to overtake a vehicle rammed into an auto rickshaw coming from opposite direction and then hit a roadside tree.
The students belonging to Sri Maramma Devara Rural High School, Doddarampura of Tumkur district were on their on their way to Dharmasthala via Karkala after visiting Udupi temple, Murudeshwara as part of their tour. Few of the students too sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The Karkala Police rushed to the spot. Locals and police assisted to shift the students to the hospital and make other necessary arrangements.
A case has been registered.
