Udupi: A fun-filled Sunday turned tragic after two youth drowned in a river at Panjimar, Pamboor.
Shirva police said that the deceased has been identified as Austin Alva (20) and Ashwin D’Souza (21), residents of Pamboor.
According to the police, eight friends decided to go for a swim in the river after attending a church programme. However, on the afternoon the currents in the river were extreme and all the youth got pulled into the current. While six of them were saved Austin and Ashwin despite efforts, couldn’t be pulled out.
Expert swimmers retrieved the bodies of the youths. The police, fire personnel and locals were involved in the rescue.
Austin, son of Nelson and Anita Alva, was a student of B.com at SVS College, Katpady. Ashwin, son of Gilbert and Gracy D’Souza was an employee of Toyota showroom, Udyavara. Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister in-charge visited the spot.
Shirva police have registered a case.
