Udupi: Seven fishermen were rescued from a sinking deep-sea fishing boat that left from Malpe port.

According to sources, Latish Mendon’s Shri Durga Vaishnavi, a fishing boat with same name, departed from the port of Malpe for the vast Arabian Sea on August 29.

The boat is said to have struck a hard object off the coast of Gangolli while making its way back to land, which caused it to begin taking in water.

The crew of the sinking fishing boat was immediately rescued by other fishing boats. However, the boat sank near Hangarakatte Bengre while being tugged ashore. The financial loss is estimated to be Rs 50 lakhs.
