Udupi: District Superintendent of Police Hakay Akshay Machindra said that strict legal action will be taken against those who circulated false information concerning kidnapping and child theft on social media platforms.

The warning from the Udupi SP follows reports of multiple fake news spreading on social media. Unrelated recordings from various countries are being circulated falsely claiming that the occurrences are taking place in the District.

The SP issued a public advisory urging people not to take law in their own hands. He urged contacting the police’s helpline number at once if somebody appeared suspicious, adding that they will respond to the call promptly and take the necessary action.
