Udupi: The District police have filed cases against 40 people for alleged drug consumption as part of a massive anti-drug operation.
The special operation against drugs was carried out over the weekend in various police stations in the district, informed Superintendent of Police Hackay Akshay Machindra. “In connection with this, 40 people in total have been arrested. Stringent action has been taken against the drug issue and a special vigilance is carried out in various places, including tourist sites and areas around educational institutions,” he said.
According to sources, the police said that Mustaf (30) and Ashraf (35) of Vinaya Nagar near Belapu under Shirva Police Station, Irshad Khan (32), a resident near Anantakrishna Nagar of Kutpadi Village under Udupi Nagar Police Station, Sharveen (20) of Shiribidu near Nagar Board High School, Kunjibettu opposite MGM College, and Samid (20) of Marpalli were arrested in the operations carried out on August 20.
While Roban D’Almeida (21) near Nejaru Junction under Malpe Police Station, Yogeesh Ganiga (25) of Matapadi village near Karkala Ramasamudra lake, Shreyas (20) of Hosnagar in Shivamogga District, Nandish (22) of Koppa taluk were arrested on August 21.
According to the police, all of the accused had tested positive for consuming ganja during the medical examination.
