Udupi: In Udupi assembly constituency, the Congress has fielded businessman Prasad Kanchan, a youth leader of the fishing community. This has angered those who have been denied tickets.
District president Ashok Kodavoor, block president Ramesh Kanchan, leaders Krishnamurthy Acharya, Diwakar Kunder and seven other aspirants had applied for tickets from Udupi. But in the end, the Udupi ticket went to Prasad Kanchan. This has led to resentment among most of the aspirants.
Prasad Kanchan was not very visible in party activities. This is the reason why Congress leaders and workers have been expressing their displeasure on social media over the issue. Krishnamurthy Acharya, another strong aspirant, has decided to resign from the Congress and contest as an independent candidate.
Activists across Udupi constituency are disillusioned with this development and it remains to be seen how much the anger of the workers and leaders will explode in the coming days.
