Udupi DC inaugurates ‘Namma Parisara, Namma Javabdari’ programme

Udupi: The “Namma Parisara, Namma Javabdari” programme kicked off after Chief Guest Priyanka Mary Francis, Udupi Deputy Commissioner, arrived at the venue. Clive Carvalho gave the gathering a brief introduction of the programme through a small presentation. The guests were then ushered to the stage and Relta D’Sa, the MC, requested the guests to inaugurate the programme by watering a plant. Dion D’souza, President of ICYM Deanery welcomed the guests.

The DC delivered a beautiful message regarding the ways in which one could contribute towards solid waste management, segregation of the waste with the help of a PPT. Bishop of Udupi Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, President of the Programme, addressed the gathering along the lines of the theme of the programme, stating that precautions today could lead to a greener and safer environment tomorrow.

The guests then released cotton bags, which were distributed to the ICYM unit representatives symbolically. These will be distributed to over 3000 families. A memento, along with the cotton bags, was presented to the guests as a token of gratitude. Shiny Alva, secretary of ICYM Udupi Deanery, proposed a vote of thanks.

The mime show and banner painting display competitions were conducted and the prizes were distributed.

After the competitions concluded, the youth gathered in the church ground and the Dean of Udupi Deanery Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, flagged off the rally with a message. The rally started from the Mother of Sorrows Church and ended at Chittaranjan Circle. Roshan Sequira informed the people about the ways to reduce the use of plastic during the rally.

Srinivas Rao, Chief Planning Officer of the Zilla Panchayat delivered the keynote address at the Chittaranjan Circle, where he mentioned many important details and statistics and also explained to the public about the SLRM implementation programme by his office. The ICYM Udupi Deanery conveyed messages about the need for implementation of the practice of reduce, reuse and recycle. Hundreds of cotton bags were distributed to the public.
