Udupi in-charge Min Sunil Kumar flags off 75th Independence Day celebrations

Udupi: District in-charge minister and State Energy & Culture Minister V. Sunil Kumar flagged off the 75th year of Independence Day celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here today on Sunday, August 15.

Minister V Sunil Kumar hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honor from the police, coast guard, forest department, fire department, excise department and home guard.

Addressing 75th Independence celebration of the country for the first time being a minister V. Sunil Kumar addressed the gathering that it would be great privilege to participate 75th Independence Day in the Udupi district being a district in-charge minister.

“The great leaders sacrificed their lives for independence of the country which we should be grateful for. Nevertheless, some of the great leaders from Udupi district like from the religious point of view Swami Vadiraja, past Pejawar Swamiji who was religious ambassador, Sadanand Hegde Supreme court judge and present judge Abdul Nazeer  and present Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty and other from legal point of view, Shivaram Karantha, Bannenje Govinda Acharya and others being Kannada lyrics point of view , Dr. V. S. Acharya, Malpe  Madhwaraj, Veerappa Moily from political leaders point of view, Ashwin Akkunje, Mamata Poojary and other from sports point of view, all these from Udupi district personalities gave their contribution to the nation which would be remember able forever,” he said.

At the present scenario under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is proceeding towards various developments and the country has been developing which would make it possible for India to become first in various fields in the world. Today, India is developing fast. We can see India become a leader in the world. The country is proceeding towards fulfilling the dream of former president of India Abdul Kalam. During Corona pandemic, Indian scientists succeeded in research of corona vaccines at the earliest, he said.

The state is planning on producing environmentally friendly fuel in the state, the Department of Energy will be popularized to consumers, farmers and entrepreneurs and plans are being made to provide electricity to every household in the state, the minister said.

A committee headed by senior literature to formulate a separate policy for the Department of Kannada and Culture, soon a new policy will be created, special incentives for Yakshagana art and efforts to incorporate Tulu language into Article 8. He said many people were sacrificed during the independence movement, making Sullya Ubbaradka Mittur village a heritage village and a memorial to the martyrs.

He said that the 250-bed hospital in Udupi would be completed soon. He also said that soon a medical college would be set up in Kolalgiri of Udupi, a systemic UGD connection to Udupi and Karkala, and drinking water supply to all villages in the district under the Jala Jeevan Mission project.

The program honoured 22 Corona Warriors who performed well during the Covid pandemic, as well as the President and PDOs of Sanur, Siddapur, Palimaru Gram Panchayat Task Force. Meanwhile, Dr. Avinash Shetty Medical Superintendent of K.M.C. Manipal, Dr. Chandrashekar of Adarsh Hospital and community health centers medical doctors were felicitated.

During the occasion, Solid waste disposal vehicles were handed over to 8-gram panchayats in the district.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Coastal Development Authority Chairman Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, Udupi Urban Development Authority Chairman Raghavendra Kini, Municipal Council President Sumitra Nayak, District Collector G Jagadish, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr Naveen Bhat, Additional DC Sadanand Prabhu, SP N. Vishnuvardhan, Coast Guard SP Nikhil and Deputy Collector Sadashiva Prabhu were present.
