Udupi: The work of digging and reasphalting of the National Highway has been going on at a snail’s pace for several months now and despite several accidents, neither the Department nor the contractors have woken up. No one has woken up even after two lives were lost near Mulki Bridge. Everyone is evasive as if people are responsible for their own life.

From near Hejamady to Mulki, the National Highway has been widened and left as it is. On the same road the vehicle has to move. While there is not much danger to four-wheelers, two-wheeler riders have to carry their lives in their hands.

Though the road has to be developed, no precautionary measures have been taken in this context. People have to move slowly where the road is blocked. But nowhere is there a warning sign. Therefore, the riders are left with no clue that they are in such a danger. It is necessary to apply brakes to control the vehicle that is moving on the blocked road. If there are other vehicles from behind, it might lead to accident.

At the same time, when the top layer is removed, the particles of asphalt, which turn out to be very small powder, are on the left side of the highway. It is being used by the contractor company for reasphalting work. Further, if two-wheeler riders move to the far left of the Highway, there is a high risk of skid.
