Udupi: MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat said the Muslim rulers had not given any land to Krishnamatha or Anantheshwara.

He hit back at Congress leader Mithun Rai’s statement that Muslim rulers gave land to Krishnamatha. “There is a mention that Haji Abdullah Saheb helped the Krishnanatha as a devotee. but I don’t know which Muslim king Mithun Rai is talking about,” he said.

“Madhvacharya founded Krishnamatha 850 years ago. Let Mithun Rai think about the situation in Ayodhya. There is a mention of Ramabhoja giving land to the Ananteshwara Temple, which was later used for the Krishna Matga. The Krishna Matha was built after the Ananteshwara Temple. It is said that the existing Jamia Masjid was also on the site of Jangama Matha, he noted.

Stating that Shokamaata Church in Udupi is on lease land given by Krishna Matga, the MLA said that Udupi is a Constituency known for its harmony.

Jangama Matha has also given land to Muslims to build a mosque. Krishnapura Matha has given land to the Christian community to build a church, he observed.
