Udupi: A rare flying snake was spotted near Prakash Laundry in a Municipal Building near Parkala Market.

The snake is about two and a half feet long and its body is covered with black and yellow lines. The public was terrified when they saw the snake jumping down from the tree.

Social worker Ganesh Raj Saralebettu, who was present there, immediately informed Reptile Expert Gururaj Sanil. It is a non-venomous snake. Chrysopelia ornata is its scientific name and it is known as the flying snake in Kannada.

It is mostly found in the Malnad region. Gururaj Sanil said that there is no need for people to panic when they see this snake.

Ganesh Raj Saralebettu rescued the snake and released it safely into the forest.
