Manipal: Fortune Inn Valley View celebrated tradition of preparing Christmas confectionery by inviting the hotel guests to mix exotic seasonal nuts and condiments for the cake as it is an essential part of the festive season on Thursday, November 24.
The age old tradition of cake-mixing to usher in good tidings and happiness is an essential part of the festive season. The history of the cake-mixing ceremony dates back to the 17th century, when it marked the arrival of the harvest season.
During this time lots of fruits and nuts were harvested and then prepared to be sent into the making of the traditional plum cake. The mix was saved up for the next harvest season with the hope that the coming year would bring with it another abundant year. This ceremony quickly metamorphosed to an intimate congregation, with family coming together to soak dry fruits in wine or rum hoping that the fine flavour would fill their Christmas with delectable sweetness.
Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. Vinod Bhat, Vice chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. G. K. Prabhu, Director, M.I.T., Uday Sharma, General Manager of Fortune Inn Valley View Hotel were present among others.
Prior to the beginning of the ceremony, Uday Sharma shared that Christmas cake mixing is a tradition to celebrate togetherness and welcome the festive season.
While speaking with media persons, Dr. H. S. Ballal said that it is a tradition of preparing Christmas confectionary by inviting guests to mix seasonal nuts and condiments for the cake. “The mixture made by our guests is going to be stored till Christmas day so that the dry fruits can macerate well for the plum cake. The flavors need to blend in perfectly. The main idea is to make the guests feel that they have played a significant part in making the Christmas cake and thereby increasing the festive mood. We are giving all importance to all the religions festivals. The theme of this year would be ‘Save the Girl When Attention Should be Given to Save the Girl’. Even now some people, especially in Northern Part of India, girls are killed in the womb. Now we can see that in India most of public sector and even private sector banks women are appointed to the top post. We should not neglect a girl or woman’s right to live.
