Udupi: Newly appointed Udupi District Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao after taking charge began his service by visiting the High School and Pre-University College at Udupi on Wednesday, September 1.
DC Rao interacted with the students of Government Women High School and PU College at Udupi. He took stock of various problems of the students who are not able to attend the school and colleges due to the Covid pandemic and understood their educational experiences.
Meanwhile, he advised the students to follow the Covid guidelines and maintain social distancing along with wearing a face mask.
After visiting the schools and colleges in the City, speaking to media persons, DC said that he got a special opportunity to welcome the students and also listen to their experiences. He also said that he has been really happy with the students as well as the school or college that have made good arrangements and taken good precautionary measures.
DC said that there is a need to eradicate the Covid pandemic and all should work together to make the country Covid-free. He also said that there should be a need to focus on unvaccinated people and get them vaccinated at the earliest.
To a query on the government imposing weekend curfew in Udupi district, DC said that he has just joined the service and that Government has only recently passed the said order. I can speak in relation to weekend curfew after conducting a meeting with people, elected political representatives and the concerned officers.
DC Rao said that he will work on a priority basis after taking the opinions of the general public, political representatives and officials. I will take necessary action wherever required after touring the district, he added. He said that outgoing DC G. Jagadeesha has explained to him the current circumstances in the district.
