Karkala: A person who attempted to sexually assault a girl working in a studio near Hosmaru was thrashed by locals here on Monday.
Sathish (19) from Idu village is said to be the culprit. He also attempted to murder the girl, sources said.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the culprit entered the studio, where the victim was working, on the pretext of getting his photos clicked. When the lady was preparing to take a snap the culprit approached and tried to kill her with a wire.
The victim has been admitted to the Karkala Taluk hospital.
Neighbouring shop owners and locals rushed inside the studio after they heard the lady screaming for help. The culprit tried to escape but the locals caught hold of him, tied him to a pole, stripped him and thrashed him thereafter.
Karkala rural police rushed to the spot and arrested the culprit and a case has been registered.
