Karwar: District In-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has instructed the officials to create awareness among the public to use M-Sand as an alternative to river sand for public and Government works in the District and to take necessary steps to supply sand by encouraging the production of M-Sand from the Krishara units as the production of M-Sand is low in the District at present.
Addressing a meeting held at the Court Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in the City on Thursday January 26, he said that as per the order of the Green Bench, the clearing of sand dunes in the containment zone has been temporarily suspended and the proposal seeking permission to clear the sand is at the Government’s level.
As there is no supply of sand for works within the District limits, he sought information from the officials about the removal of sand available in the silt in the riverine areas of the backwaters of dams, reservoirs and dam reservoirs with a view to providing sand for public and Government works in accordance with the provisions made in the new Sand Policy – 2020.
KPCL has been asked to urgently collect information about the quantity of sand stored in the reservoirs Android provide it to the district Administration and officials of Mines and Geology Department, Forest Department to conduct a joint inspection and examine the pros and cons of desilting and submit a report immediately.
MLA Rupali Naik, MLC Ganapathy Ulwekar, Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Sub-Divisional Officers Jayalakshmi Rayakoda, DCF Prashanth and officials of various departments were present at the meeting.
