Security beefed up ahead of Dasara Utsav in Palace City

Mysore: Six-thousand-two-hundred-twenty-seven policemen are assigned to maintain law and order during Dasara Utsav in the cultural capital of Karnataka, said City Police Commissioner Dr M A Salim.

Addressing the media persons during the interactive meet held at Commissioners chamber, Dr Salim said that in order to provide security during Dasara Utsav, 461 traffic policemen, 400 NCC cadets and 50 home guards were assigned. The assistance of crime branch policemen from Tamil Nadu and Kerala will be sought in this regard, said Dr Salim.

The heightened security is essential as the US ambassador and diplomats are arriving to view Dasara Utsav, the bomb disposal squad and state intelligence units have already arrived in the city. In order to avoid traffic jams during Jumbo ride during Dasara Utsav, other access roads will be cleared for smoother traffic, added Dr Salim. 

Discussions held to relocated city bus stand

The discussions are held with transport authorities in order to relocate the bus stand to scouts and guides grounds, on October 13 and 14, between 12.00pm to 5.00pm, in order to avoid inconveniences to tourists who arrive to witness Dasara Utsav.

Temporary bus stand to avoid heavy traffic

The tourists who are arriving from far-flung regions will be urged to use public transport during Jumbo procession, in order to avoid heavy vehicular traffic.  The public automobiles will be allowed to park in the temporary bus stand erected at Banni Mantap.

Jumbo camp deserted

It was decided to ban all human activities in the vicinity of jumbos camping at the palace premises, in order to avoid inconvenience during jumbos majestic procession, said Dr Salim.

Helpline

The police department will set up 30 help lines in city railway station, bus stand and key centers across the city, explained Dr Salim.

DCP M Mahadevaiah, information and broadcasting department deputy director Prakash and others were present on the occasion.
