Davanagere Women Lead the Way with Eco-Friendly Holi
As Holi celebrations brighten Karnataka, a group of women from SS Layout, Davanagere, is setting an example by embracing herbal pastes instead of synthetic colours. The women, residents of A Block, have been crafting natural colours at home using fruits, vegetables, and herbs for over 12 years.
A Festive Glow with Nature’s Touch
“Our pastes are made from hibiscus, beetroot, carrots, oranges, spinach, henna, gram flour, tomatoes, aloe vera, and yogurt. We also use herbal extracts from neem and betel leaves. These not only make Holi safer but also enhance the skin,” shared Saumya Satish, one of the participants.
Eco-Friendly and Skin-Friendly Holi
“We are committed to celebrating Holi in an eco-friendly manner. Chemical colours can cause allergic reactions, while our natural pastes nourish the skin and protect cultural traditions,” added Shilpa, another participant.
Davanagere’s Holi Spirit
Davanagere is renowned for its vibrant Holi celebrations, with Ram & Co Circle being a major attraction. The herbal Holi initiative has inspired many to adopt safe and sustainable festival practices.
