Dharwad Education Department Prepares For New Academic Year

Hubballi: The Dharwad education department is all set to commence the new academic year after the summer holidays, with schools opening their doors to students on May 29. Detailed preparations include cleaning classrooms and toilets, ensuring drinking water availability, maintaining sumps and tanks, organizing the kitchen and utensils, arranging food grains, and scheduling classes.


Education department officials will visit 853 primary schools across the district to oversee preparations. According to an official, 50 education department officials in 9 teams will visit schools in all taluks over 7 days. They will review school hygiene, building and toilet repairs, timetables, subject distribution, annual plans, and preparation for books and uniform distribution. A meeting with taluk block education officers will follow, with reports submitted on completed and pending tasks.

Schools have been instructed to organize a ‘School Prarambhotsava’ on May 31, featuring welcoming ceremonies such as beating drums, using bullock carts, giving roses, distributing sweets, explaining distributed textbooks and uniforms, and starting lessons.

Deputy director of the public instruction department, Shanamuk Swamy Keladimath, stated that schools are prepared to start the academic year on May 29. He noted the demand for 40,45,173 books, including 29,48,087 free books, with 10,97,087 already distributed. Uniforms will also be provided to children.

SM Hudedamani, deputy project coordinator of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, said field education officers will form teams and conduct school interviews from June 1 to 9. They will ensure schools are open and academic activities have started, checking cleanliness, drinking water, mid-day meals, textbook and uniform distribution, student enrolment and attendance, bridge programmes, schedules, and lesson distribution.
