Heavy rainfall: Orange alert issued in 12 districts of K’taka

Mangaluru: The Meteorological Department has issued orange alert for Sunday August 29 in 12 districts in Karnataka.

On Saturday August 28 and Sunday August 29, coastal districts received heavy rainfall. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are also expected in the northern interior regions of Karnataka.

On Sunday August 29, the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Uttara Kannada, and the south interior areas of Karnataka were issued on orange alert. In the same districts, a yellow alert has been issued for August 30.

Further, heavy rainfall was reported in Udupi, Manipal, Karkala, Siddapura, Kundapur, Brahmavar, Kaup, Udyavar, Katapady, and Padubidri. Rainfall in Mangaluru was on an irregular basis. Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba, Belthangady, Madanthyar, Dharmasthala, Naravi, Punjalakatte, Bantwal, Kalladka, Sullia, Subrahmanya, Guttigaru, Vittal, Kanyana, Surathkal, Moodbidri, and Ullal recorded good rains.

The severe downpour that began on Friday night in the Kasargod district is still on.

According to sources, many power supply poles were uprooted and the supply of electricity in has been disrupted across these districts.
