6 arrested on charges of looting at knife point

Hubballi: Hubballi Keshwapur police have arrested five persons on the charges of dacoity and seized vehicles, cell phones and other materials from them on Monday.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Pandurang H Rane told media persons that the accused are Mohammad Asfaq A Nalband (23), Dadapeer J Chowdhary (23), Imran F Havaldar (18), Mohammad Rafik A Chowdhary (22) and Shabajali S Sayyed (25), all residents of Hubballi.

Imran was an autorickshaw driver. He used to pick passengers going to the railway station from the old bus stand. On the way, two other culprits would enter the rickshaw pretending to be passengers going to the Railway station. Later, instead of proceeding towards the railway station, they would take the rickshaw to the remote places nearby Gadag road and loot the passengers at knife point. They also snatched away ATM cards from the passengers and withdrew their money with the help of two bike borne accomplishes who used to follow that auto. The culprits were arrested near Onti Hanumappa Temple here, he said.

Two auto rickshaws, bikes, 35 gm gold, 10 cell phones and Rs. 8,000 cash have been recovered from them.

A case has been registered with Keshwapur police station in this regard, Commissioner said.
