Hubballi: Following the slow pace of works related to the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and the hardships being faced by people, the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has decided to urge the deputy commissioner to hold a coordination meeting of officials of HD-BRTS and HDMC.

It was decided at a monthly council meeting in Hubballi while the members cutting across their party affiliations expressed displeasure over slow pace of BRTS work affecting people and causing accidents.

Janata Dal (S) member Rajanna Koravi who moved a calling attention expressed displeasure over the continued flow of sewage into Unkal lake.

He alleged that as sewage pipes were damaged owing to the ongoing BRTS works, sewage was entering the Unkal lake and the authorities had failed to act despite the matter being brought to their notice. He said while crores of rupees were being spent to prevent sewage from entering the lake, apathetic officials were acting against the idea.

Another councillor Umesh Koujageri brought to the notice of the house the hardship being faced by the residents of Unkal owing to water-logging caused by haphazard works under BRTS.

The discussion concluded with Mayor D K Chavan and Municipal Commissioner Major Siddalingayya Hiremath deciding to request the Deputy Commissioner to hold a coordination meeting.

Earlier, the council meeting began on a noisy note with Congress councillors accusing the Municipal Commissioner of being partisan in demolishing illegal structures and yielding to pressure tactics from the ruling BJP councillors.

The discussion concluded with the council unanimously resolving to act against illegal structures on corporation properties.
