Hubballi: CID has launched a massive manhunt for Rudra Patil, suspected killer of rationalist MM Kalburgi. As there are rumors that he might have escaped abroad, now interpol officers are reportedly trying to trace the killers.

The name of Rudra Patil was added in the wanted list 15 days ago by the CID. Now it has issued a red corner notice to all Interpol agencies in 190 member countries.

The investigating team in the high profile case suspect that the accused might have escaped to Nepal. Rudra Patil is also wanted by NIA in 2009 Goa Madgaon blast case. His photo was published in NIA’s website too, in this regard.

They also suspect that he might have been involved in the murders of other rationalists like Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabolkar. Through phone records, it is confirmed that Rudra Patil is in contact with Sameer Patil who is in custody of the Maharashtra SIT team.

Rudra Patil is a childhood friend of Samir Gaikwad, the prime suspect in the murder of other rationalist Govind Pansare. Police also suspect that Rudra Patil worked with Samir in planning the elimination of Dr. Kalburgi. However, their link in the Kalburgi killing is not yet confirmed.

According to sources, after the preliminary investigation, based on call tracing, it is learnt that Rudra Patil is in Nepal. Based on this information, Interpol officials have launched massive manhunt for the accused.

It is almost two months since MM Kalburgi, rationalist and writer was shot dead by unidentified men at his residence in Dharwad. The investigating team has failed to nab any of the accused.

The rationalist’s killing has been one of the most mysterious cases in the state, as no group or individual has claimed responsibility for his murder. The CID team had questioned the family, relatives, friends and neighbours of Kalburgi and also looked into property disputes besides issues he faced when he was the president of Basavaraj Kattimani Pratishtana. However, the CID is said to have failed to make any headway in the case.
