Hubballi: Ravindra Prasad, a former police commissioner of the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad in north-karnataka was quizzed for over four hours by the CID sleuths in connection with a cricket betting scam on Thursday.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Karnataka police questioned him as a witness in an ongoing investigation and video recorded his statement, sources said.
However Prasad has denied all allegations and is said to have claimed that, in his service of three decades, he had neither indulged in any irregularity nor abetted any illegal activity.
The investigating officers during questioning have shared call data records of over 400 conversations Prasad reportedly had with bookies. But Prasad is said to have clarified that he was not aware that they were involved in cricket betting. The CID is seeking legal opinion in this regard.
The cricket betting racket had come to light in July this year when a local news channel caught on camera the alleged nexus between bookies in Hubli-Dharwad and the police in the city. In the sting operation carried out by the local channel, a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Hubli-Dharwad Hanumantharaya was caught on camera demanding a bribe from the TV crew posing as bookies to run their racket.
