Hubballi: MLC Basavaraj Horatti who has been trying to facilitate a debate between the factions supporting and opposing the independent religion tag for Lingayats, has found out a new date for the debate to be held in Naganur Rudrakshi mutt in Belagavi, following the cancellation of Hubballi meeting for security reasons.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner had refused permission to hold the meeting at Moorusavir mutt premises citing law and order issues.

Now after holding a meeting with personalities in his side, Mr. Horatti has selected the Naganur Rudrakshimutt mutt in Belagavi, where the locality is big enough to have indoor meetings and provide security to the participants. The meeting slated to be held on either Jan 28, 29 or 31, would be held under CC TV surveillance besides the deliberation would be videographed for record, Horatti said.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi Horatti said the new dates have been informed to the other faction, the meeting would be held on one day in these three dates.

We wanted the confusions to be cleared over Veerashaiva, Lingayat religions, the documents to be presented by both factions would help erase mis-understandings between two factions over historic, religious issues, he said.

When asked about Dingaleshwar Swami’s lead in this issue, Horatti said the swamy was very much clever compared to politicians, his moves are being watched, but we will not come under his influence in any matter, he said.

Lakhs of people have attended our meetings held across the state for claiming separate religion status for Lingayats, so that the minority status to our community would help get government facilities, he said.

After we started holding meetings for separate religion status, the Panchacharyas who had been treating other lingayats as untouchables and used to sit on Simhasanas (thrones), have united and sitting on plastic chairs to oppose our move. This itself is our achievement so far, he said.

Mr. Horatti clarified that he wanted all seers, swamijis to come on one platform to discuss the issue, then the major purpose of holding such meetings would be realized.
