Hubballi: Celebration of Tipu Jayanti amidst opposition by BJP and Sangha Parivar has become a matter of pride for many organisations based on secular credentials in the twin cities.
Around 24 organisations involving Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, Karnataka Janabhivridhi Vedike, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, pro-dalit, pro- kannada and farmers organisations have come together to celebrate Tipu Jayanti, while BJP and Sangha Paravar have opposed the same raising questions over the integrity of Tipu Sultan.
These organisations have sought permission from the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner to take out a rally and hold a stage programme on the occasion of Tipu Jayanti in the city on November 10.
The leaders of the organisations while condemning the opposition of BJP and RSS leaders to the programme, have alleged that the same BJP and RSS leaders were silent when Tipu Jayanti was celebrated when the JDS-BJP coalition government ruled the state. Now there was no importance for their opposition they said, while asking the police authorities to pave way for peaceful celebration of Tipu Jayanti.
The rally organised on the occasion will start from Ambedkar statue near Railway station and after going through Chennamma circle, it would culminate at a public gathering at Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hubballi. Thousands of people are expected to participate in the rally and programme.
