Minister for Medical Education visits KIMS to take stock of situation

Hubballi: Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, which has been in news for all wrong reasons managed to put up a great show at least in front of Medical Education minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil during his visit to the institute on Friday in Hubballi.

Though the Minister’s visit mainly aimed at taking stock of the situation prevailing inside the institute, the authorities had managed to keep everything up to mark- may it be cleanliness and other aspects. For few hours the hospital looked on par with private hospitals.

The minister roamed inside the KIMS visiting Radiology department, Central library, dialysis unit, maternity ward, surjery ward, drugs center among others and spent more than an hour inside the campus.

One women who had come from Dandeli spoke to the minister and complained that in maternity ward two women were forced to sleep on one bed and urged him to make arrangement for a separate bed for her kin, which he immediately responded and directed the concerned to take care.

Later speaking to media Dr. Sharanprakash Patil said doctors are not recommending any outside durgs for the patients, all generic drugs are available in the hospital. Doctors have been strictly warned against private practice during office hours and he warned of suspension if the doctors are found violating this rule.

Deadline has been given for KIMS authorities to complete the ongoing construction works of Cardiology, Women and Child ward, Burns and administrative unit.

Medical Council of India has been urged to allow the KIMS to increase the intake of MBBS seats from the present 150 to 200 seats he said.

KIMS Director Dr. Dattatreya Bunt and others officials were present.
