
Public Outcry After Child’s Death, Accused Dies in Police Encounter
Hubballi, Karnataka – A deeply distressing incident in Hubballi has led to public outrage after the tragic death of a five-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Ritesh Kumar, a 35-year-old native of Bihar, was fatally injured in a police encounter while attempting to flee custody.
The incident came to light when the child was reported missing and later found in an abandoned shed. Authorities quickly launched an investigation, and CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspect with the child before her disappearance. A case was registered under relevant child protection and criminal laws.
According to Police Commissioner Shashi Kumar, the accused was being escorted by officers for identification procedures when he allegedly tried to escape and acted aggressively. Police personnel, including a woman sub-inspector, issued warnings before taking action to prevent his escape. He was injured during the attempt and later succumbed at the hospital.
Three police officers were injured during the confrontation and are receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been residing in Hubballi for a few months, working in various temporary jobs. Authorities are conducting further inquiries and have sent a team to Bihar to verify his background and gather additional information.
Following the news, local residents gathered outside the police station, expressing grief and demanding justice. Police have assured that a thorough and transparent investigation is underway.
