IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, Yadgir districts for two days.

Due to heavy rain in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra and Belagavi districts over the past week, the water level of most of the rivers including Krishna, Ghataprabha, Veda Ganga, Dudh Ganga, Hiranyakeshi, Mahadayi, and Malaprabhahas risen sharply.

The coastal areas of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are likely to receive thunderstorms for the next five days. The storm is likely to blow at a speed of 40-45 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

As per the IMD report, the North interior districts of Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Kalaburagi and Yadgir are likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days. Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur and Vijayapura districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall with a wind speed 30 to 40 kmph.

The south interior districts of Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Shivamogga are likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next four days. Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara and Tumakuru districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall.

The water level of several rivers, including the Krishna and Bhima, has risen due to heavy rains in Maharashtra. In Belagavi district, 14 bridges have been submerged.
