Ballari: Owing to an increase in the number of Covid cases in Ballari District, Deputy Commissioner Pavan Kumar Malpati has ordered all government, government-aided, and unaided schools in Ballari City and Taluk to close on Monday, January 17.

On Saturday January 15, the number of Covid-19 cases surpassed 400 with a 13 per cent positive rate. On-campus classes for students in kindergarten through tenth grade have been suspended until January 23.

Several schools, hostels, and even government offices are said to have become epicentres for cluster Covid cases. In addition, the DC has ordered that all movie theatres and hostels in Ballari be closed. Schools in the Toranagallu region, which is adjacent to the Jindal Steel Works plant, have already been closed by the District Administration.

The night curfew has also been extended, with restrictions beginning at 8.00 pm and lasting until 6.00 am. Till January 31, all houses of worship will be closed to worshipers, informed DC.

The order also stated that, “No more than 50 guests will be allowed to attend weddings and other events. Permission will have to be obtained from the tahsildar concerned. People will not be permitted to conduct rallies, protests, et al. All the officials must ensure that Covid protocol is strictly adhered to.”
