Ballari: Deputy Commissioner Pavan Kumar Malapati issued a directive to the Police Department and RTO officials to jointly build checkpoints and check each vehicle to prevent illegal camel trafficking and slaughter during the Bakrid festival and other days.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of the District Committee on prevention of illegal camel, cow slaughter and trafficking during the festivals such as Bakrid festival and other days on Saturday July 17. He suggested that the police, corporation officials and animal husbandry officers should act in coordination to protect the animals and make arrangements to shelter them at nearby animal shelters or goshalas. He also instructed to take legal action against the accused in this regard.

Awareness of the law on animal sacrifice during Bakrid festival should be spread through loudspeakers in areas where the minority community are predominant, instructed the DC to the Corporation Commissioner.

He instructed that a meeting of all the heads of mosques and Presidents of Anjuman-e-Islamia and distribute pamphlets to the public in this regard.
