Bellary: Close on the heels of the big fat wedding that cost crores of rupees which raised many eyebrows, mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy received shocks in the form of Income tax raids on companies owned by him.IT sleuths raided Obalapuram Mining Company (OMC) and Associated Mining company (AMC) owned by Reddy. IT officials were seen examining various documents and are likely to raid his residence on Siruguppa Road in Bellary town.
Narasimhamurthy, an RTI activist had lodged a complaint that Reddy had spent nearly Rs 500 crores on the wedding of his daughter Brahmani, held on November 16.
In his complaint, the RTI activist had urged the authorities to explore the source of income after Reddy lost everything after he was jailed. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had seized all his property and bank accounts after he was imprisoned.
In the Parliament, Congress member Anand Sharma had demanded Janardhan Reddy’s arrest on his daughter’s wedding day as many were perplexed by the flaunting of wealth by Reddy family post demonetisation by the Central government.
