Bidar: A local court has sentenced four people, including three doctors for jail term and fined them for a botched surgery that resulted in the death of a woman.
Dr. Rajshree Biradar and Dr. Vaijinath Biradar, and also Saibanna, were sentenced to two years in prison and fined Rs. 10,000 each by the II Civil (senior) and JMFC Court judge Abdul Khadar. They will have to serve an additional six months in prison if they do not pay the fee. Dr. Rajshekar Patil was fined Rs. 5,000 and sentenced to six months in prison. If he does not pay the fee, he will be sentenced to an additional month in prison.
On October 12, 2014, Sampavati, Ghaleppa Auradakar’s wife, was admitted to the City’s Sushrut Nursing Home for a hysterectomy treatment. However, following a five-hour procedure, she died due to alleged medical negligence.
She was taken to Dr. Rajshekhar Patil’s Shree Hospital in an ambulance without telling her family about her condition. According to the chargesheet, Dr. Patil continued to treat her without disclosing her condition.
Later, it was found that Sampavati died at Sushrut Nursing Home due to a lack of ventilator facilities. While convicting the accused, the court noted that the nursing home management were negligent in not providing a ventilator for such a risky procedure.
“Dr. Rajshekar Patil, in an unholy nexus with the two other doctors, had continued the treatment even when she was dead,” the court said.
