Kalaburagi: Election for Mayor and Deputy Mayor (Dy Mayor) of Kalaburagi City Corporation will be held at the Town Hall here on February 5.
Mayor seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste and Deputy Mayor seat is for general category. Appointment of Chairmen for various standing committees will be conducted on the same day.
Among 55 wards currently there are 27 Congress corporators, 24 BJP corporators and 4 JD (S) corporators, which includes two MPs, three MLAs and three MLCs.
However BJP has included 5 more MLCs in the Kalaburagi City Corporation voters’ list, which has resulted in increase of the total number to 68, and to attain simple majority a party needs to get 35 seats.
BJP has increased its strength to 35. Hence, Congress members have opposed this, and submitted a complaint letter to the regional commissioner.
