Kalaburagi: Promising to support the print media of the State for the growth, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that his Government is contemplating to provide health cards and free bus passes even to rural journalists.

Speaking after inaugurating the 36th annual convention of Karnataka Union of Working Journalists on Tuesday January 4, he said that he is aware of the problems of local and regional newspapers. “My objective is to ensure that newspapers of all levels, be it local, regional or State should sustain itself, survive and work. Since the local papers survive largely on government advertisements, our government will make efforts to help the newspapers. We will also provide any other benefits needed for the survival of newspapers,” he said.

Stating that media and politics maintain a strange and interesting relationship, he hoped that the relationship would only strengthen in the coming days.

He recalled the contribution of print media during the freedom struggle and said that the media has played a crucial role in getting freedom to India. Media has witnessed several challenges and has successfully overcome them so far. A section of the media is doing a great job in upholding the true spirit of the Constitution and ethics, Bommai said and added, “Today I am elated to see and meet the reporters of the State here.”

Bommai said that his government is preparing several unique projects for the development of Kalyana Karnataka region. The action plans have been prepared to complete the projects within a year, he added.
