Kalaburagi: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Yashwanth V. Gurukar has said that even if the name is already in the electoral roll, the name will be included in the Voters’ List as per Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and will be punishable with imprisonment of one year along with being debarred from voting.

Addressing a press conference at his Office on the evening of Thursday December 29, he said that during the recent revision of electoral rolls, it was found that around 12,000 applications were submitted for inclusion in the electoral rolls even though their names were on the electoral roll during the scrutiny of applications submitted for inclusion in the electoral roll.

Though more than 90,000 names were deleted in Kalaburagi District in July – August last year with the help of the newly developed photo-simulator entry technology developed by the Election Commission of India, around 12,000 applications have been received for changing the photograph and changing address during the revision of the electoral rolls, he said and added that a large number of such applications have been filed, especially in Kalaburagi North and Kalaburagi South Constituencies.
