Peace meet between cops and activists ends in clash

Kalburgi: In a peace meeting held ahead of Ganesh Visarjan in the town between two communities, verbal conflict erupted, in which Sri Ram Sene activists and a Police Sub Inspector (PSI) were injured.

Jevargi station Police sub-inspector Pandith Sagar, Sri Ram Sene Jevargi taluk president Veeresh Pateel, vice president Sharanu Kolakoora were injured after being assaulted during the meet. They are being treated in a district private hospital.

The peace meet was held at Jevargi Tahshildar office under the Presidentship of SP Amith Singh between two communities on Wednesday. The meet was called ahead of Ganesh Visarjan, in order to prevent any clash and to maintain law and order.

During the meeting between Hindu leaders, PSI Pandith Sagar and Sri Ram Sene leaders had a verbal fight. After the meeting, the PSI tried to assault Sene leaders, it is alleged.

In the fight, the PSI too suffered injuries and was taken to district hospital.

SP Amith Singh, meanwhile, has assured to take action against the PSI.
